Sweeney Todd play takes Steampunk twist

SDI is taking a Steampunk style twist on Sondheim’s rare, musical thriller. Sweeney Todd is a suspenseful, and at times humorous telling of the infamous tale of the murderous barber of Fleet Street in London. Sweeney Todd, the unjustly exiled barber, returns to London seeking revenge. His thirst for blood soon expands to include his unfortunate customers. And he is helped along his murderous way by the opportunistic pie-shop owner downstairs.


There will be a special “Pay What You Can” Performance on Thursday, July 18th at 8:00pm; donations of at least $5 are suggested.


Stage Door Inc. is a local, community theatre located inside the Pasadena Town Square Mall. Voted Best Family Entertainment Venue in Pasadena for the last two years in a row by the Pasadena Citizen readers, Stage Door is a true “community” theater. They partner with the Pasadena Strawberry Festival and are proud members of the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce.


Stage Door Inc.’s Sweeney Todd opens tonight, Friday, July 5th and runs Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00pm and Sunday matinees at 3:00pm weekends through July 28th. Tickets are $15 for general admission, $12 for seniors or students with ID. Group rates are available for all performances.
