Rubber giants Goodyear have announced that they’re going to retire their famous dirigible, ‘The Spirit of America’. After 20 years of cruising the Californian skies, it will be grounded mid-August.The 7th and 8th August saw a farewell party for the airship that has gained a lot of affection from the residents of California. There were food trucks, music, ground tours and close up looks at ‘The Spirit of America’. There was also a draw for rides on the airship.
All is not lost, though, as ‘The Spirit of America’ is retired, it will be replaced by a twin ship ‘The Spirit of Innovation’. The ‘Spirit of America’ has made hundreds of appearances at awards ceremonies including American Football and the Academy Awards. However, despite also featuring on programs such as Hell’s Kitchen and The Apprentice, it’s most famous appearance is being mentioned in Gangster Rap artist Ice Cube‘s Good Day track where it made a statement confirming the rapper’s status as a purveyor of ladies of ill repute.
