Shameless star David Threlfall is to appear in the fourth series of Ripper Street. Filming has begun for the Victorian era set program in Ireland for the show which is based around the Police station that had to cover the Whitechapel area in the late 1800’s.Threlfall will play Abel Croker. A villain who tends to know other men’s secrets. After an 11 year stint as Frank Gallagher on Shameless, he managed to avoid being pigeon-holed and has been in demand as an actor. The cast will expand to include other additions such as David Warner, Matthew Lewis, Killian Scott and Jonas Armstrong. Two first series characters will return and join the three main characters played by Matthew MacFadyen, Game of Thrones‘ very own Jerome Flynn and Adam Rothenburg.
Originally, the program wasn’t meant to get this far. Ripper Street was originally produced by the BBC but was axed after the second series due to low ratings. After a massive campaign by fans to get it reinstated, Amazon came to the rescue and continued making it for a third and now fourth series.
