You may remember me reporting on the photography of Gary Nicholls and his Imaginarium story project. The photographic endeavour has already spanned a number of years and could get close to a decade before we see it’s conclusion which is a culmination of his work in a picture featuring 4,000 steampunks from around the world marching across the landscape.
It started small with the occasional photograph posted here and there and a few core enthusiasts modelling for Gary, but over time it’s grown into something much bigger. Gary is tireless in his pursuit of his dream and alongside his regular job he organises and shoots each image as well as showcasing then images at various events and cons.
Now he’s ready to launch his first book which is titled Eva’s Story. Given that the photographs that he sells are exception quality, printed on metal so that the colours seem to glow, it’s only befitting that his book shares a similar standard of production. According to the Kickstarter page, the books will have the following features:
THE STANDARD FIRST EDITION BOOK £79 (RRP £99)
• 300 x 300mm (paper size)
• 180 pages (at design stage), including 4 large gatefold spreads (fold out sections, equal to 3 single pages).
• Photographs to be printed on high quality matt laminate paper, finished with a spot UV varnish
• Real cloth covered hardback, embossed cover + foil stamping.
• Round sewn spine with foil stamping + ribbon marker.
• This will be the first edition run.
The first 1000 copies will be signed and numbered by Gary, with your name listed as a supporter in the book’s acknowledgements. As I write this, 30 minutes into the campaign, over £1,000 has already been raised of the £60,000 target and 11 books are spoken for. If you want one, get in there quickly.
There’s also upgrades available such as the Limited Edition set First Edition books or which only 200 will be printed. For the sum of £550 you will receive a similar book to the standard book at £79 but will have a different colour cover. You also receive two signed 20in Limited Edition metal prints.
For those of you who love to invest in something, the top prize is the Collector’s Edition Box Set. Priced at £3,000 it comes with a stainless steel and leather covered book, sporting a silver and copper skeletal hand clasp to keep the book shut. You also receive three signed 24in images and a signed certificate of authenticity for each print.
