Bringing in the Big Guns
Ken and Lisa Marks, proprietors of the Hannibal History Museum, helm this event every year. And for this 5th go round, they’ve got some of the best names in Steampunk entertainment coming to the delightfully quirky little historic town of Hannibal. Acts/entertainers include: The Cog is Dead, Frenchy and the Punk, Doc Phineas, Thomas Dean Willeford, Airship Isabella, Eva Le Feva, and Amy Wilder.
With the explosion of attendees (12,000+ last year), the Festival has added more paid and free events. As always, there will be plenty of free/inexpensive activities in the historic streets of Hannibal, including: contests (costume, facial hair, teapot racing, parasol dueling, tea dueling), roaming musicians, magicians, and demos. Plenty of vendors will be on hand should you need to find something to wear to the Premium (paid) events.
For the Premium Events, the Festival has upped the ante. This year there are two riverboat cruises with totally different themes: a pirate cruise and a “steameasy” cruise.
There are two teas, one with a fashion show and another with a Titanic theme hosted by Molly Brown, who was originally from Hannibal, MO. Another set of shows are the burlesque performances, one “Bawdy”, one “Seduction by Gaslight”.
Also in pairs are the concerts/balls, one “Western World” with the Cog is Dead, and “Carnivale Bizarre” with Frenchy and the Punk, both in beautifully rehabbed historic theatres.
This year’s Festival looks to be so steamy! Let’s hope the weather isn’t. Details for all events can be found on the Festival website: https://www.bigriversteampunkfestival.com/
