Steampunk Junkies PowerSource power bank review

Just under a year ago I reviewed the Cryptex USB Flash Drive from Steampunk Junkies. I thought I’d give you readers a little time to fully digest all the exceptional wordsmithery and inclusive critical data. Now, ten days short of the one year anniversary from that review which I expect you’ve ALL read, I’ve turned my attention to the PowerSource power bank. A power bank is essentially a portable mobile battery for your phone or tablet. It stores power until you need it and then you simply plug your device in when needed. It then mimics a mains connection and adds power. The PowerSource is a … Continue reading Steampunk Junkies PowerSource power bank review

80 Days comes to Android

80 Days comes to Android

Video game makers Inkle have released an Android version of 80 Days. They say it’s a steampunk game based on Jules Verne’s Around the World in 80 Days. You get to travel your way around the globe as fast as you can in order to complete the challenge.

In the press release (below) the makers have specified that the graphics are Art Deco which – while being very nice – are around 40 years after steampunk generally has a setting. However, you get to interact with hundreds of people across 7 continents and 150 cities.

It’s devised as a choose your own adventure style game with over 10,000 choices that you can make and nearly an entire world to travel around. It certainly sounds like an interesting concept. It’s available from the Google Play store or Amazon for around £3. Continue reading “80 Days comes to Android”

Nightmare in Steam

You can’t expect to live in a dream if all you’ve ever done is walk in nightmares. Eliza Kempe Dorley is always left in the background. As a female, being top inventor for the Alliance of Silver and Steam has as many draw backs as perks. She’s in charge of the creation of the many tools the Guild uses in pursuit of the demons that run lose in the London Underground, which means without her the demons would be harder to put down. It also means she misses all of the action and has never had the chance to really … Continue reading Nightmare in Steam

Should I worry about steampunk?

Anatomy of Steampunk cover
Anatomy of Steampunk by Katherine Gleason

Is it wrong that I worry about the integrity of steampunk? I know I’m relatively new to the community and I hold no authority on what is right or wrong. No-one does, really. So why am I worried that the New York Post have ran an article on a steampunk book? The book looks very good. I think my concern is partly due to the suggestions of how to accessorise to get the “steampunk look” below the article. Continue reading “Should I worry about steampunk?”
